Implementation of AI to Fight Climate Change

With the increased interest in the impact of Global Climate Change, businesses are beginning to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning to track ever-increasing natural calamities, assess and improve environmental impacts, predict future trends, and inform corporate environmental strategy and policy.

Companies are taking an interest in this new technology not only because of threats to ecosystems and populations but also because of concerns that unanticipated natural disasters and weather events can directly impact trade and commerce.

One area where businesses are utilizing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are efforts to reduce a company’s carbon footprint. Leading businesses are incorporating these technologies to find smarter and eco-friendly techniques to reduce their carbon footprint and implement sustainable practices — while remaining profitable.

Transportation companies such as Uber are using this technology to study and develop the use of electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and drones as ways to reduce their environmental impact.

Energy companies that manufacture fossil fuels are using the latest artificial intelligence systems to look at models and strategies to shift their operations towards solar and other clean and green energy production.

Other industries, including consumer packaged goods companies, pharmaceuticals, retailers, and government agencies, are all beginning to use this technology to improve their environmental policy and practices.

While traditional technology and computer science have helped to better understand the effects of Global Climate Change, new technology, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, is set to play a key role in helping business and organizations to better understand trends, enact responsible practices, and mitigate their impact on the environment.
